Mauritanian president Ould Abdel Aziz has seized all oportunities to send significant messages to the Moroccan authorities. On the 25th of December he sent a military delegation to take part to one of the Front’s military exercises. On the 27th of February and May the 10th, he received two of the Polisario’s emissaries.
Doing it his way, the Mauritanian president commemorates the Polisario’s festivities. Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz has been receiving the Front’s representatives on dates that are significant and symbolic for the separatist movement.
This year, the leader held talks on February the 27th at the presidential palace in Nouakchott with former «Prime Minister» Abdelkader Taleb Oumar who currently serves as the Polisario’s representative in Algiers. A date that commemorated the self-proclamation of the «SADR» in 1976.
On Thursday, 10th of May, he received the Front’s coordinator with the MINURSO, M’Hamed Khadad, knowing that the day marks the creation of the Polisario Front in 1973 in Zouirate, Mauritania.
The perfect timing
The two emissaries received, since the beginning of 2018, by Mohamed Ould Adel Aziz were there to deliver Brahim Ghali’s messages. During the two meetings, Ould Abdel Aziz held one-on-one talks with the two representatives, took photos with them and carefully read their letters. By the end of each meeting, the president released a statement that was relayed by the Mauritanian new agency.
These statements praised the excellent diplomatic relations maintained by the «two nations».
Nevertheless, the timing of these hearings is anything but innocent. In addition to its high symbolic significance for the leadership of the separatist movement, they allow the Mauritanian president to send encrypted messages to the Kingdom.
A card he uses to demand the Moroccan authorities to pay special attention to his requests to extradite his opponents settled down in Morocco or, at least, to push them to leave the Kingdom.
